The United States plays a central role in the development of artificial general intelligence (AGI) and in shaping the security landscape surrounding it. Home to many of the world’s leading AI research labs, technology companies, and venture capital networks, the US drives much of the innovation and investment in the field. At the same time, its government is increasingly focused on AGI’s geopolitical and security implications, balancing the pursuit of technological leadership with concerns over misuse, strategic competition with rivals such as China, and the potential risks to national and global security. Through initiatives on AI safety, defense applications, and international governance, the US is positioning itself as both a pioneer and regulator in the evolving AGI domain.
